2011 Delegate Assembly

The Delegate Assembly is the representative, decision-making body - comprised of 277 elected delegates - through which NASW members set broad organizational policy, establish program priorities, and develop a collective stance on public and professional issues. Article V of the National Bylaws addresses Delegate Assembly. The Delegate Assembly meets once every three years. As stated in the National Bylaws, "The membership shall act through the Delegate Assembly in all matters except as otherwise provided in the Bylaws."

What is the schedule for Delegate Assembly?

 

June 18, 2010

Deadline for submission of proposed policy statements, revision of automatically-referred policy statements and suggested program priority goals.  Deadline for submission of proposed bylaws amendments (regarding the DA or dues split), or Code of Ethics changes (full text).

September, 2010               

National Board of Directors approves preliminary agenda and approves initial set of Proposed Program Priority Goals

September 2010– May, 2011  Coalition Meetings

October, 2010     

Proposed policy statements, revised policy statements, Code of Ethics changes, bylaws amendments and program priority goals are placed on NASW Web site for members and delegates to comment.  Authors will be requested to monitor the Web site for comments regarding their own policies

January, 2011

Online voting for the 2014 automatically-referred policy statements

NASW Board approves initial DA agenda for the August meeting

January- March 2011

Online Policy and Program Priority Goals Hearing Panels are convened 

Deadline for receipt of petitions (January __, 2011)

Any petition-approved policy statements placed on Web site for 30 days for comment.

March - May 2011

Second round of comments and online hearing panels are convened for policy statements

April, 2011           

National Board adopts final 2011 Delegate Assembly agenda for August meeting

Final Hearing Panel Revised policies placed on Web site for 30 Days for Delegates to comment

May-June, 2011

Program Priority Goals choices are finalized/revised by hearing panel

Final revised policy statements are posted to the Web site

Social Work Speaks is published; new NASW Bylaws amendments and/or Code of Ethics changes go into effect.
